Cooler weather aids firefighters

A break in the weather yesterday has helped firefighters in the region not only with the bigger fires but several that came out of the lightning that we had at the end of last week. The Nena Springs Fire on the Warm Springs Reservation is 40 thousand acres and 60 percent contained. That fire was human caused. Of the lightning fires locally, the Whychus Fire 8 miles NE of Sisters is just over 2 thousand acres and 60 percent contained, the Milli Fire in the 3 Sisters Wilderness 8 miles west of Sisters is 110 acres and zero percent contained, the Belknap Fire on the Ochoco National Forest is 60 acres with smokejumpers on the fire, and there is a 38-hundred-acre fire burning on private land 10 miles NE of Shaniko that is being monitored.
